Red Chilli Coconut chutney is a simple and quick chutney, it is a yummy, spicy side dish for idli, dosa, upma, uthappam. Red coconut chutney made with fresh coconut, dried red chilis, chana dal and a garlic pod, and tempered with mustard seeds and curry leaves.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut
  • 2 tsp Chana dal
  • 5 Red chillis
  • 1 Garlic pod
  • 1 piece Tamarind
  • Salt as needed
  • 1 tsp Oil
To temper
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Few Curry leaves
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan, add chana dal and roast for 1 to 2 minutes.

  2. Add the red chillis, stirring quickly, add the garlic and turn off the heat.

  3. In a mixer jar, add roasted chana dal, red chilis, garlic pod, tamarind and salt.

  4. Add grated coconut and make it a smooth paste.

  5. Heat oil in a small pan, add mustard seeds when it pops add curry leaves.

  6. Now add the seasoning with chutney, serve hot with idli or dosa.
