Moong Dal Laddu or Nei Urundai is a traditional speciality dessert of Tamil Nadu. This is a healthy and tasty snack. There are many names for pasi paruppu laddu, nei urundai and mavurundai etc. Moong dal laddu is made with protein-rich moong dal, sugar and ghee fried cashew nuts.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 10 Cashewnuts
  • 1/2 cup Ghee
Instructions
  1. Roast 1 cup of moong dal until golden brown for 4-5 minutes or till a nice aroma comes out.

  2. In a small pan, heat 1 tsp ghee and fry the chopped cashews and set aside.

  3. Heat 1/2 cup ghee in the same pan and set aside.

  4. Cool the roasted moong dal and grind finely.

  5. Sieve to avoid lumps.

  6. Add 1 cup of sugar to a mixer jar and make it a fine powder.

  7. In a bowl mix together the moong dal powder and powdered sugar and add 1/2 tsp cardamom powder and roasted cashews.

  8. Add in the warm ghee little by little, and mix the ghee with the mixture. 

  9. Take 2 tbsp laddu mixture and press into small balls. Repeat with the remaining laddu mixture.

  10. Store in an airtight container, which you can store for up to 10 -15 days.
