Potato Podimas/ Urulaikizhangu Podimas

Potato Podimas/ Urulaikizhangu Podimas is a quick, simple and yummy dish. Potato is made without chili powder, so it is less in spiciness. It is a good combination with spicy puli kuzhambu, spice, and tangy kara kozhambhu, araithuvita kozhambhu goes well with sambar and rasam too.



Ingredients

Potatoes – 3
Green chilis – 2
Oil – 1 Tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Urad dal – ½ Tsp
Chana dal – 2 tsp
Salt as needed
Turmeric powder – 1 pinch
Curry leaves – Few
Onions/Shallots – ½ cup (chopped)

Method

1. Wash and peel potatoes and pressure cook for 2 whistles.

2. Soak chana dal in ½ cup of water.

3. Once done, rinse potatoes under cold water and cut into small pieces.

4. In a pan add 1 tsp of oil and add mustard seeds and urad dal, allow it to pop.

5. Add curry leaves.

6. Add chopped onion/shallots and green chilis saute for a minute.

7. Add soaked chana dal.

8. Mix everything well and add salt.

9. Add potatoes and mix well.

10. Then add turmeric powder.

11. Combine everything well and cook for 2-3 minutes and turn off the flame.

12. Serve hot with rice and sambar.
