Peanut Chutney is delicious with Idli, Dosa, Paniyaram, and Uthappam. There are different varieties in peanut chutney preparation, You can make peanut chutney with coconut and green chilis,  Peanut chutney can be made with dried chillis and garlic too. In this post, I have shared peanut chutney with onion and tomato.  

Some tips to make delicious peanut chutney

  • Roast peanuts until slightly brown and crispy.
  • If you use roasted peanuts, no need to fry again, you can add them directly.
  • You can add dried chillis according to your taste.
  • I didn’t add the tamarind because the tomatoes were added, just add the tamarind and grind if you like.

Ingredients
  • Peanuts - 1 cup - 75g
  • Cooking oil - 1 tsp
  • Large onion - 1
  • Tomato - 1 (small)
  • Garlic pods - 5
  • Dried chillis - 6
  • Cumin - ½ tsp
  • Salt - as required
For Seasoning
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - ½ tsp
  • Urad dal  - ½ tsp
  • Dried chili - 1
  • Curry leaves - as required
Instructions
  1. Add ½  cup of peanuts to a frying pan and fry over medium heat. 

  2. Fry the peanuts until lightly browned and crispy. 

  3. Once done, transfer to a plate, and remove the skin.  

  4. Add 1 tsp of cooking oil to the frying pan and when hot add chopped onion. 

  5. After the onion is lightly sauteed, chop a small tomato and add it. 

  6. When the tomato becomes soft, add 6 dried chilis, 5 cloves garlic, and ½ tsp of cumin seeds.

  7. Fry this for 2 - 3 minutes. Allow cooling, after simmering.

  8. Add the roasted peanuts to a mixing jar and add the onion and tomato mixture to it. 

  9. Add the required amount of salt and a little water and grind finely.

  10. In a small frying pan add 1 tsp of oil and when hot add ½ tsp of mustard seeds. 

  11. Add ½ tsp urad dal, dried chilli and a little curry leaves. 

  12. Stir in the mustard and pulses until lightly browned and then add to the chutney. Delicious peanut chutney is ready to serve.

Method
