Ganesha Chaturthi snacks like Kara Kozhukattai are very simple and quick. Kozhukattai is a highly significant one of the various offerings presented to Lord Ganesha on the day of Ganesha Chaturthi. There are several different types of kozhukattai made, including ulundhu kozhukattai, ellu poornam, paruppu poornam, and coconut poornam. Compared to poornam kozhukattai, pidi kozhukattai is simpler to make and takes only 10 to 15 minutes. It serves as a tasty evening snack or light dinner in addition to being an offering to God. It can be accompanied by poondu, kara, or coconut chutney. To make authentic upma kozhukattai, you can use ground millet, rice, or rava in place of rice flour.


Some tips to make delicious kara kozhukattaai

  • You can use kozhukattai flour or Idiyappam flour to make pidi kozhukattai.
  • If using rice flour, use it after frying.
  • Coconut can be added if desired.
  • After the water boils well, add the rice flour.
  • Once the rice flour has been added turn off the flame.

Ingredients
  • Kozhukattai flour - ½ cup
  • Cooking oil - 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - ½ tsp
  • Urad dal- ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Dry Chilli - 1
  • Asafoetida powder - 1 pinch
  • Salt – as needed
  • Grated coconut – 4 tsp
Instructions
  1. To a pan, add 1 tsp of cooking oil.

  2. Add, ½  tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp urad dal, 1 dry chilli, 1 pinch asafoetida, and a few curry leaves.

  3. Then boil it after adding 1 cup of water.

  4. Add as much salt as is necessary for the kozhukattai after the water boils.

  5. Add 4 tsp of grated coconut next.

  6. Stir in a cup of rice flour to it.

  7. Turn off the oven and let it cool when the dough turns stiff.

  8. Once it has cooled slightly, work it with your hands and form it into tiny balls.

  9. Place four fingers on it, press, and hold.

  10. Place the kozhukattai on an idli plate or steamer plate that has been greased.

  11. Heat the water in the idli pot before adding the idli plate and boiling it.

  12. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes.

  13. Take it after it has cooled slightly.

  14. The spicy kozhukattai is ready.
