Sweet Pidi Kozhukattai Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated all over India and there are many kozhukattai/Modagam varieties are prepared such as thengai poorna kozhukattai, paruppu poorna kozhukattai, kara kozhukattai, ellu poorna kozhukattai, etc. In this post, I have shared how to make delicious sweet pidi kozhukattai in an easy way.

Some Tips to Make Delicious Pidi Kozhukattai

  • You can make kozhukattai with store-bought rice flour or homemade raw rice flour.
  • You can use store-bought kozhukattai mavu or idiyappa mavu, puttu mavu is not suitable for kozhukattai.
  • Instead of adding grated coconut, you can chop the coconut into small pieces.
  • Adding little roasted sesame seeds with coconut will add more flavour.
  • You can add a little ghee if desired before adding the rice flour to the jaggery syrup.
  • Keep the stove on low heat while adding the rice flour to the jaggery syrup.

Ingredients
  • Rice flour - 1 cup - 150g
  • Jaggery - ¾  cup - 100g
  • Cardamom powder - ¼ tsp
  • Grated coconut - ½ cup
  • Moong dal - ¼ cup 
Instructions
  1. Add 1 cup of rice flour to a wide pan.

  2. Put on low heat and fry for 5 minutes.

  3. Then take it apart.

  4. Add a cup of water to another bowl.

  5. Add ¾  cup of jaggery.

  6. Bring to a boil until the jaggery dissolves.

  7. Drain it when the jaggery is dissolved.

  8. Pour the jaggery syrup into a pan and bring it to a boil.

  9. Add a ¼ tsp of cardamom powder.

  10. Add ½ cup of grated coconut.

  11. Add ¼ cup moong dal to a cooker and pressure cook for 3 whistles.

  12. Once done, add it to the jaggery syrup.

  13. When it boils, add the roasted rice flour.

  14. Put on low heat and stir.

  15. Once the flour has accumulated leave the pan and transfer to another bowl.

  16. After cooling down, apply ghee on the hands, roll into small balls. Hold each ball in your hand and press, bringing in an elliptical-shaped dumpling.

  17. Place the prepared kozhukattai on a greased idli/steamer plate.

  18. In an idli pan, add a little water and bring to a boil.

  19. Put the kozhukattai plate in it, cover and simmer for 7 - 8 minutes.

  20. Delicious Pidi kozhukattai is ready to serve.

Method
