Black-eyed peas | Karamani | Thattai payiru sundal is a healthy and tasty snack variety, filling evening snack for kids. It is a simple and quick dish; the only time-consuming job is soaking. Tempering is completely our choice you can temper with onion/carrot/mango etc., or you can add shredded coconut before serving.
Ingredients
- Black-eyed peas – 1 cup
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Urad dal – ½ tsp
- Red chilli – 1
- Asafoetida – ½ tsp
- Chopped onion – 1/4 cup
- Coriander leaves – to sprinkle
- Salt as needed
Method
Step by Step Pictures
1. Soak Karamani/Black-eyed beans for at least 8 hours or overnight.
2. Once done, add the needed salt and pressure cook for 2 or 3 whistles.
3. When the pressure is released, open and drain the excess water and keep it aside.
4. Heat oil in a pan, and add mustard seeds allow it to crackle and add urad dal.
5. Add red chilis and saute for a few seconds.
6. Now add asafoetida.
7. Add the cooked beans and combine with seasoning.
8. Add chopped onion and coriander leaves and turn off the flame serve hot.
