Tomato Chutney is a spicy tangy chutney for idli and dosa. This is a simple & quick chutney made with onions, tomatoes, and red chillis. Idli and chutney are the best ever combination for breakfast, this chutney goes well with any breakfast or snacks.

Notes

  • Use onion for this recipe, since shallots are not suitable.
  • Use ripe tomatoes for the best results.
  • You can replace the red chilis with green chilis.
  • Adding a small piece of tamarind will help if the tomatoes are not tangy.
  • You can also add a small piece of jaggery while grinding, to enhance the taste.
  • You can adjust chillis according to your taste.

Ingredients
  • 2 Onions
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 10 Red chillis
  • Salt as needed
To Temper
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Few Curry leaves
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan, add 2 chopped onions and saute till they become translucent.

  2. Add 2 chopped tomatoes and cook till they become mushy.

  3. Add 10 red chillis, cook for a minute and turn off the flame. Let it cool.

  4. Add the mixture and salt to a mixer jar.

  5. Grind it a smooth paste.

  6. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a small pan and add 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds, when it splutters, add a few curry leaves.

  7. Add the seasoning with chutney. Serve with Idli/dosa.
