Tomato Pulao | Tomato Rice | Thakkali Sadam | How to make tomato rice

Tomato Pulao is a tomato flavoured rice, south Indian style spicy and tangy rice, which is perfect for lunch box and you can use the left-over rice effectively. This is my family’s favourite food ever. I made it in a biryani style that is tastier and flavourful than the usual tomato pulao. I did not add any vegetables, you can add vegetables like potatoes, carrots or green peas to enhance the taste. Tomato pulao goes well with potato roast, chips, and raita.

Notes

  • I have used basmati rice for tomato pulao, you can use ponni boiled rice, sonamaoori, or any other rice of your choice.
  • Ginger garlic paste and garam masala are optional.
  • You can also prepare this in a pressure cooker as a one-pot meal, prepare tomato masala as shown and add 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • Add ripe tomatoes for best results.
