Veg Salna / How to make Vegetable Salna

Salna is a popular side dish for parotta in south India. There are 2 varieties in salna chicken salna and veg salna both taste awesome with parotta. Apart from parotta salna goes well with Idli, dosa, and chapathi. We can make salna with or without vegetables I didn’t add vegetables, you can add vegetables like carrots, potatoes and peas.

Ingredients
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Tomato
  • Few Coriander leaves
  • Few Mint leaves
  • 3/4 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp Chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Curry masala/ Garam masala powder
  • 1 pinch Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
  • Salt as needed
  • 2 tsp Oil
To Grind
  • 1/4 cup Coconut
  • 1 tsp Fried gram
  • 1/2 tsp Poppy seeds
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan add chopped onion and saute till it becomes translucent.
  2. Add ginger garlic paste and cook till raw smell goes off.
  3. Add chopped coriander leaves and mint leaves and saute for a minute.
  4. Add chopped tomato cook till it becomes mushy.
  5. Add coriander powder, chili powder, curry masala powder, salt, and turmeric powder.
  6. Mix everything well and add ¼ cup of water and cook covered for 5 – 10 minutes.

  7. Meanwhile in a mixer jar add shredded coconut, poppy seeds, and fried gram.
  8. Grind it as a smooth paste.
  9. Once the mixer cooked well add 1 more cup of water and bring it to boil.
  10. Add ground mixture.

  11. Bring it to boil for a few minutes and turn off the flame.

  12. Serve hot with Flaky parotta.
