Mullangi Sambar | Radish Sambar | Sambar Recipe | How to make Sambar

Ingredients

  • Mullangi/White Radish – 1
  • Toor dal – ¼ cup
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Onion/ Shallot – ½ cup (Chopped)
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tsp
  • Salt as needed
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ cup
  • Asafoetida – ¼ tsp
  • Sambar powder – 1 tsp
  • Tamarind – gooseberry sized ball
  •  Few Curry leaves

Preparation

  • Wash and peel Radish, remove stem and cut it into small pieces.
  • Chop onion/shallots.
  • Wash and pressure cook toor dal for 2 whistles.
  • Soak tamarind for 10 minutes and squeeze the pulp.

Method

1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves.

2. Add chopped onion, cook till it becomes translucent.

3. Add Mullangi and saute for a minute.

4. Add salt, turmeric powder, sambar powder, and asafoetida.

5. Add the tamarind pulp.

6. Now add cooked dal and 1/2 cup of water, mix well.

7. Pressure cook for 2 whistles or cook covered till the radish is cooked well.

8. Serve hot with rice.
