Ingredients
  • 2 cups Drumstick leaves
  • 1/2 cup Chopped onion/shallots
  • 1 Red chili
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup Toor dal
  • 1 tsp Sambar powder
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • Salt as needed
To Grind
  • 4 tsp Grated coconut
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Few Cashew nuts Optional
Instructions
Preparation
  1. Remove the leaves from the stem, rinse 2 or 3 times.

  2. Pressure cook the toor dal for 2 whistles.

  3. In a mixer jar, add grated coconut, cumin seeds, cashew nuts and grind into a smooth paste with a little water and keep it aside.

Method
  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, allow it to pop, then add urad dal and red chilli.

  2. Add the chopped onion and saute for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add the drumstick leaves, salt, and turmeric powder, mix everything well.

  4. Add ¼ cup of water, and cook covered for 5-10 mins.

  5. Now add cooked toor dal, sambar powder, asafoetida, and cook for 5 minutes.

  6. Add the coconut paste, combine everything well, and then turn off the flame.

  7. Serve hot with rice.

  4. Add salt and turmeric powder, mix everything well.

   5.  Add ¼ cup of water, and cook covered for 5-10 mins.

  10. Make it a smooth paste.

  12. Add the ground paste, combine everything well, and then turn off the flame.
