Chili Bread is a delicious snack that can be used for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and it is perfect for kid’s lunch boxes. Essentially bread is chopped into small pieces mixed with sauteed spicy onion-tomato mixture, served with raitha. Basically, bread chilli is derived from chilli parotta served in restaurants where parotta is shredded into bite-sized pieces mixed with sauteed masala mixture, bread chilli is a variation of chilli parotta, chilli idli is another variety.

As my son loves eating bread and pasta, I used to make many varieties of food with bread, this one is loved by the whole family.  A bread sandwich is the next favourite bread recipe of our family. If you want the bread chilli to be crispy, serve it immediately once removed from the wok, otherwise, the bread may observe the sauces and become soggy.

 Some Tips to Make Delicious Bread Chilli

  • You can use any type of bread to make bread chili, such as wheat bread, white bread, multi-grain bread.
  • You can toast the bread with butter or oil.
  • Avoid green chilies if they are meant to be made for children.
  • You can add tomato sauce or tomato ketchup if you prefer.

Ingredients
  • Bread slices - 8
  • Butter - 3 tbsp
  • Cooking oil - 2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - ¼ tsp
  • Large onions - 2
  • Green chilies - 3 
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Tomatoes - 2 
  • Coriander leaves - a little
  • Chopped capsicum - 1/4 cup 
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala - ½ tsp 
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt - as required
Instructions
  1. Take 8 slices of bread to make chili bread.

  2. Cut it into 4 - 6 pieces.

  3. Add 3 tbsp butter to a pan.

  4. When the butter is hot add the chopped bread pieces and toast.

  5. Once done, take it apart. 

  6. Add 2 tsp cooking oil to a pan.

  7. When the oil is hot add 1/4 tsp of cumin seeds.

  8. Fry the cumin seeds and then add finely chopped onion.

  9. When the onion is slightly wilted, add 2 green chilies chopped.

  10. Add 1/2 tsp of ginger garlic paste and fry.

  11. Then add 2 chopped tomatoes.

  12. After the tomatoes are soft, add the coriander leaves and capsicum and fry.

  13. Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala, 1 tsp of chili powder, and red chili powder each.

  14. Add the required amount of salt.

  15. After a little frying, add  1/4  cup/required amount of water and fry till the oil separates at the edges.

  16. Now add the bread pieces and mix.

  17. Stir until the spices are mixed well.

  18. Sprinkle a little coriander and turn off the stove.

  19. Delicious bread chili is ready to serve.
