Salem Thattu Vada Set/Salem Style Spicy Sandwich

Thattu Vada Set is a tasty, healthy and easy chat item available in the roadsides of Salem, Thattu vada is crispy and crunchy snack made with rice flour, spread with 2 different spicy chutneys and filled with shredded carrot and beetroot. Previously Thattu vada set available only in Salem. Now it is becoming popular all over TamilNadu, and available in some places in Chennai too. It is a yummy teatime snack, and it is best for evening kids snacks. For Thattu vada you can use store-bought or homemade if it is homemade try to make it thin and crunchy, while buying in stores too, check with the same.

Ingredients
  • Thattu vada/ Thattai – 1 packet (Small Thattu vada)
  • Red Chutney - ¼ cup
  • Green chutney – ¼ cup
  • Grated carrots – 1 cup
  • Grated Beetroots – 1 cup
  • Chopped onion to sprinkle
Instructions
  1. Keep the ingredients ready.
  2. Keep Thattu vada in a plate, spread ½ tsp of green chutney on it.
  3. Add 1 tsp or more of freshly grated carrots.
  4. Add grated beetroots.
  5. Add ½ tsp of red chutney.
  6. Cover with another Thattu vada.
  7. Sprinkle with chopped onion, and serve.
Recipe Notes
  • You can sprinkle some lemon juice before closing the sandwich.
  • You can also add grated mangoes too.
  • Serve freshly made sandwiches otherwise, it may become soggy.
  • You can also sprinkle some chopped coriander leaves.
  • You can also try with your favorite chutney varieties.

1. Keep the ingredients ready.

2. Keep Thattu vada in a plate, spread ½ tsp of green chutney on it.

3. Add 1 tsp or more of freshly grated carrots.

4. Add grated beetroots.

5. Add ½ tsp of red chutney.

7. Cover with another Thattu vada.

8. Sprinkle with chopped onion, and serve.
