Sirudhanya Payasam/Foxtail Millet Payasam

Sirudhanya Payasam is a healthy and tasty Payasam, it is similar to paruppu Payasam (moong dal kheer). Sirudhanya Payasam made with millet, moong dal, jaggery, milk, and cardamom powder.

Apart from foxtail millet, you can also use, barnyard millet, Kodo millet, little millet. Millet Payasam is really tastier than regular paruppu Payasam.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup Foxtail Millet
  • 1/4 cup Moong dal
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 3 tsp Ghee/Clarified butter
  • 10 Cashew nuts
  • 10 Raisins
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
Instructions
  1. Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a pressure cooker and add washed Moong dal.
  2. Roast till it becomes slightly golden brown.

  3. Add rinsed millet, and cook for a minute.
  4. Then add 2 cups of water and bring it to boil.
  5. Close the lid and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  6. Once done, add powdered Jaggery.
  7. Mix well and bring it to boil.
  8. Once the Jaggery combined well, add milk.
  9. Add cardamom powder.
  10. In a small pan, heat 1 tbsp of ghee, add cashew nuts and raisins.

  11. Cook till it becomes golden brown.
  12. Add it with Kheer, mix well. Serve hot or chilled.
