Chicken Salna is delicious with parotta, egg dosa, idli and chapati. In addition, chicken salsa is perfect for egg parotta and kothu parotta. Salna, which is usually made with onion and tomato, tastes like chicken curry, but instead, you have to grind a special masala paste to make hotel style salna. Apart from chicken salna, plain salna, thick salna, vegetable salna are also yummy with parotta and chapathi. Do try this delicious chicken salna and enjoy.  

Some Tips to Make Delicious Chicken Salna 

  • Use chicken with bones to make salna. 
  • Salna will be tasty if chicken pieces have more bones and less flesh.
  • When frying ingredients for masala paste, put on medium heat and fry till fragrant. 
  • You can add chilli powder and green chillies to your taste.
  • Add the chicken once the onion and tomato masala have cooked well. 
  • Salna is flavourful if you add a little extra mint.
  • Adding curry masala powder is subject to your choice. Instead, you can add a little bit of garam masala or can be done without both of these.
  • When grinding the roasted spices, add the required amount of water and grind finely.
  • After adding water to salna, boil for 20 – 25 minutes over medium heat.

Ingredients
Masala Paste
  • Peanut oil/Sesame oil - 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon - 1 piece
  • Cloves - 4
  • Cardamom - 4 
  • Peppercorns - ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds- ½ tsp
  • Fennel Seeds - ½ tsp
  • Coriander seeds -1tsp
  • Poppy seeds - ½ tsp
  • Cashew nuts - 4
  • Red chilis - 4
  • Grated coconut -¼ cup 
Other Ingredients
  • Chicken with bones - 400g
  • Peanut oil/Sesame oil - 5 tsp
  • Bay leaves - 1
  • Fennel seeds - ½ tsp
  • Onion - 2
  • Ginger Garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Coriander leaves - a handful 
  • Tomato - 1
  • Salt - as required
  • Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
  • Chili powder - 1 tsp
  • Curry masala powder - ½ tsp
Instructions
  1. Add 1 tsp oil to a pan.

  2. When the oil is hot, add 1 piece of cinnamon, 4 cloves, 4 cardamoms, ½ tsp of pepper, ½ tsp of cumin, ½ tsp of fennel seeds, 1 tsp of coriander seeds and ½ tsp of poppy seeds and fry until lightly browned.

  3. Add 4 cashew nuts.

  4. Then add 4 chillies and ¼ cup grated coconut and fry.

  5. Then let it cool and add to a mixing jar.

  6. Add a little water and grind nicely.

  7. Add 5 tsp of oil to a pan to make salna. When the oil is hot add 1 bay leaf, ½ tsp of fennel seeds.

  8. Add 2 chopped onions.

  9. Once the onion is slightly browned, add 2 tsp ginger garlic paste, 2 green chillies and a little curry leaves.

  10. Add the required amount of mint and coriander leaves. Fry the ginger garlic paste until the raw smell leaves.

  11. Add chopped tomato, cook until it becomes tender.

  12. Then add the required amount of salt, ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp curry masala powder.

  13. Now add the masala paste, cook until the oil separates from the sides.

  14. Once done, add the chicken pieces and cook for a minute.

  15.  Add 750 ml to 1 litre of water with it.

  16. Cover and simmer on medium heat for 20 - 25 minutes.

  17. Delicious Chicken Salna is ready to serve.
