Murungai keerai poriyal is one of the healthiest South Indian side dishes that goes well with rice varieties, drumstick leaves have a lot of health benefits, although it is easy to cook, it only takes time to separate the leaves from the stems. Whenever I am lazy to cook drumstick leaves, it will excite me for its health benefits and I will not forget to add drumstick leaves twice a month.
Notes
- Rinse the drumstick leaves 2 – 3 times and drain the water.
- Chopping drumstick leaves is optional.
- You can replace the onion with shallots.
- Adding grated coconut is optional.

- 1 bunch Drumstick leaves
- 1/2 cup Chopped onion
- 2 tsp Grated coconut
- 1 tsp Oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Urad dal
- 2 Red chilies
- Salt as needed

Separate the leaves from stems, roughly chop the drumstick leaves. Wash, drain and set aside.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, once it pops add urad dal and red chillis.

Add the onions and cook till the onions become translucent.

Add drumstick leaves and saute for a minute.

Sprinkle required salt on it.

Add 2 or 3 tsp of water and cook covered on medium-low flame.

Once the water is absorbed, add grated coconut, mix gently and turn off the flame.

Serve hot with rice.

1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, once it pops add urad dal and red chilis.
2. Add onions cook for 5 mins or till the onions become translucent.
3. Add drumstick leaves and sauté for a minute.
4. Sprinkle required salt on it.
5. Add 2 or 3 tsp water and cook covered on medium-low flame.
6. Once the water is absorbed, add grated coconut, mix gently, and turn off the flame.
7. Serve hot with rice.
