Nannari Root (Indian Sarsaparilla) is an Ayurvedic herb found in many parts of South Asia. Nannari sarbath is used to cool the body naturally and to prevent dehydration It can cure urinary tract infections, digestive disorders, constipation and loss of appetite, which are common in summer. Drinking a cup of Nannari sarbath in summer is good for health.

Nannari root has various specialities and it is made by distilling nannari syrup with sugar. Using this can make different types of sarbaths. Nannari lemon sarbath, Nannari coconut water sarbath, Nannari Nungu sarbath and Nannari lemon soda are popularly available in street shops.

In this post, I have mentioned the nannari sarbath recipe by adding almond gum and sabja seeds to the nannari sarbath. Almond gum and sabja seeds have numerous benefits. Most importantly both of these ingredients can be used to relieve body heat. 

Basil seeds are also known as sabja seeds which help in lowering blood sugar, reducing body weight and are good for constipation. Almond gum is used to cool the body naturally by soothing the body heat. Almond resin is good for the immune system and strengthens the muscles. 

How to make Nannari Syrup at home?

  • Rub the nannari roots well 2 to 3 times in water and wash until the clay comes out of the root.
  • Leave to dry until there is no moisture in it.
  • Take the fine roots and crush and remove the centre part.
  • Take it on a stone and crush it.
  • Now soak in hot water overnight.
  • After soaking, drain the water and place it in a bowl.
  • Add one cup of sugar per cup of nannari root and add the juice of 1 lemon and bring to a boil. 
  • Boil for 20 to 30 minutes or until 1 string consistency is achieved.
  • Cool and store in an airtight bottle.

Notes

  • You can add basil seeds and almond resin as per your requirement and there will be no change in the taste of the sarbath.
  • Since nannari syrup already contains sugar, there is no need to add sugar again when making sarbath.
  • Add lemon juice to taste.
  • You can add a few ice cubes or add ice water.
  • Nannari syrup taste changes depending on the brand, add water accordingly.

Ingredients
  • Nannari Syrup - 10 tsp
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Lemon Juice - 4 tsp
  • Almond Gum- 3 pieces 
  • Sabja seeds - 3 tsp
Instructions

  5. Add 2 - 3 tsp of soaked basil seeds.

  6. Add nannari syrup at the rate of 5 tsp per 150ml of water.

  7.  Add 2 tsp or the required amount of lemon juice.

  8.  Add the required amount of water and add ice cubes if desired.

  9.  Mix everything well.

  10. Delicious nannari sarbath is ready to serve.
