Bhindi Fry is a crispy side dish that goes well with rice. It is made with okra, masala powders, rice flour, and gram flour. Okra fry is a Punjabi special dish. There are different variations in the okra fry recipe, but it is commonly made with basen. Okra fry is prepared with sooji/rava too, but it is different from traditional bhindi fry.

 We can prepare many different dishes with okra, okra fry, stuffed okra, dahi okra, okra masala, etc. In south India vendakkai sambar, vendakkai kuzhambu, vendakkai varuval, poriyal, mor kuzhambu are so popular. But okra fry is a quick dish, we can prepare it just in 10-15 minutes.

Notes

  • While preparing okra fry, use tender okras. Otherwise, the fry may become hard to bite.
  • You can adjust spiciness according to your taste.
  • Adding a little amount of cornflour will make okras more crunchy.
  • Can be deep-fried or shallow-fried with less oil.
  • You can slice okras or cut it lengthwise.
  • While mixing the flour with okra, moisture in the okra will make the flour combined, if needed you can add 2 -3 tsp of oil.

Ingredients
  • 300 grams Okra
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/4 cup Basen flour
  • 2 tsp Rice flour
  • Salt as needed
  • Oil for frying
Instructions
  1. Rinse and dry okras, and cut it into thin slices.

  2. Once done add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 2 tsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala, and required salt.

  3. Mix well and add 2 tsp rice flour and 1/4 cup basen and Combine.

  4. Add 2 -3 tsp of oil if required and coat well.

  5. Heat oil in a pan for frying.

  6. Fry okras on a medium-high flame, and stir occasionally.

  7. Fry till it turns crisp and golden.

  8. Drain off & serve hot.

  2. Once done add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 2 tsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala, and required salt.

  3. Mix well and add 2 tsp rice flour and 1/4 cup basen and combine.

  4. Add 2 -3 tsp of oil if required and coat well.

  5. Heat oil in a pan, fry okras on a medium-high flame, and stir occasionally.

  6. Fry till it turns crisp and golden.

  7. Drain off & serve hot.

Recipe Notes

  • Use tender okras otherwise, the fry may not be tasty.
  • You can adjust spiciness according to your taste.
  • You can add a little amount of cornflour, to make the fry more crunchy.
  • You can deep fry it in oil or shallow fry with less oil.
