Masala tea is a delicious and refreshing tea. It is more popular in North India than South India and it is called masala chai. Normally you add cardamom or ginger to the tea and when you add cinnamon and cloves, the taste and aroma are refreshing.
Some Tips to Make Delicious Masala Chai
- You can add thick (full fat) milk or thin (skimmed) milk to make tea.
- It is delicious if you freshly boil the milk for tea, rather than reheating the boiled milk.
- Spices can be ground in stone or in a mixer.
- Grind the spices until the cardamom seeds are powdered.
- Add tea powder in hot water and boil well then add spices.
- Boil the tea decoction until a nice aroma comes or until it is reduced to half.
- Add tea powder and sugar according to your taste.

Refreshing Indian Tea
- Milk - 2 cups
- Cardamom - 6
- Cinnamon - 1 piece
- Cloves - 4
- Ginger - 1 slice
- Tea Powder - 2 tsp / as needed
- Sugar as- 2 tsp / to taste

Add 2 cups of milk to a pan and boil it.

Add 6 cardamoms to a crushing stone or mixie jar.

Add 1 piece of cinnamon with it.

Then add 4 cloves and finely grind them.

Once done, keep it aside.

Add 1 piece of ginger to the stone and crush. Then set aside.

Add a cup of water to a pan and when hot add 2 tsp of tea powder.

Boil for 2 - 3 minutes.

Add the ground spices and ginger and mix well.

Boil it over medium heat for 5 minutes or until it is reduced to half.

Then add 2 tsp/ required sugar and mix.

When the milk boils, add it to the tea decoction.

Boil on medium heat for another 2 minutes.

Strain it with a strainer.

Serve hot.
