Street Style Chilli Chicken is a tasty, spicy, starter or appetizer. There are many varieties in the preparation of chilli chicken. Chilli chicken is originated in China and it is prepared with boneless chicken, red chilis, green onion and soy sauce. Indo Chinese chilli chicken is marinated with eggs and other Indian masala powders, deep-fried in oil and tossed with tomato sauce, soy sauce, chopped garlic, bell pepper, and onion. Indo Chinese chilli chicken is a tangy, sweet, and spicy dish.

Street style chicken is different from Indo Chinese style chilli chicken. As there are different methods in street style chilli chicken, my recipe is almost the same as the recipe of south Indian street chilli chicken. Though it is made with Indian masala, I have added a little chilli sauce if you want to make it pakka Indian chilli chicken, you can add curd before adding fried chicken.

Notes

  • While making chilli chicken, use boneless chicken and cut it into medium size pieces.
  • Marinate for at least 15-20 minutes. If you have time, you can marinate for 2 hours.
  • You can also squeeze 1/2 lemon along with green chilis and curry leaves.
  • You can also add 3 tsp of curd, before adding chicken.
  • You can prepare this same dish with vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, and potato.

Ingredients
To Marinate
  • 500 grams Boneless chicken
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tsp Maida
  • 2 tsp Corn flour
  • 1 tsp Rice flour
  • 2 tsp Chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Jeera powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • Salt as needed
Chilli Chicken
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tsp Oil (used for frying chicken)
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 3 Green chilis
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Few Chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • Salt as needed
  • 3 tsp Chili sauce/Tomato sauce
Instructions
To Marinate
  1. In a bowl add 500 grams of boneless chicken (cut into medium size pieces), and add 2 eggs, 2 tsp maida, 2 tsp cornflour, 1 tsp rice flour.

  2. Add 2 tsp chilli powder, 1/2 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp jeera powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder.

  3. Add required salt and 1 tsp ginger garlic paste.

  4. Combine everything well and marinate for 15-20 minutes.

Frying
  1. Heat oil in a pan for frying, add chicken pieces one by one.

  2. Cook on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes, and flip it to another side.

  3. Cook till golden brown.

  4. Drain it in a paper towel.

  5. Keep it aside.

Chilli Chicken
  1. In a pan heat 2 tsp of oil (used for frying chicken).

  2. Add 1 chopped onion, cook till translucent.

  3. Add 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste, cook until the raw smell leaves.

  4. Add 3 green chilis, a few curry leaves, a few chopped coriander leaves and mix well.

  5. Once done add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala and required salt.

  6. Combine everything and cook until the raw smell leaves.

  7. Add fried chicken pieces.

  8. Now add 3 tsp Chili sauce/Tomato sauce, mix well and turn off the flame.

  9. Finally, add a few chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
