Milk Bun is a super soft & fluffy bread variety, prepared with all-purpose flour, milk, yeast, and sugar. There are many bread varieties, dinner rolls, burger bun, sweet bread, meat-stuffed bread, savory bread, sometimes topped with tutti-frutti, nuts, caramel, jam, cream, etc. Dinner rolls and burger buns are different from milk buns.

In India pav bun/ ladi pav is so popular. It is prepared with maida, milk, sugar, butter, and yeast. Pav bun and bhaji is a yummy snack/dinner. Milk bun is popular in the UK and Japan. Milk bun and pav bun are similar, but as compared with pav bun milk bun has used in many ways, we can have it with hot milk, coffee/tea, spread them with jam/cream, dip in sauce, or even a plain bun is also yummy. Though it is available in stores, soft and fluffy bun fresh from the oven is super delicious.

Notes

  • While preparing the milk bun you can use maida or all-purpose flour.
  • You can also add one egg while kneading.
  • Mix the active dry yeast with warm milk, neither with hot milk nor with cool milk.
  • You can add more sugar, for a mild sweetness in the bread.
  • You can add 2 tsp milk powder, along with the flour to enhance the taste.
  • You can use it as a small sandwich bun.

Soft and fluffy milk buns

Ingredients
  • 300 ml Warm milk
  • 1 tsp Yeast
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 3 cups Maida
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3 tsp Butter
  • 2 tsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Butter to grease & apply on top
Instructions
  1. In a bowl add 300 ml of warm milk.

  2. Add 2 tsp sugar and 1 tsp active dry yeast.

  3. Mix well and keep it aside for 5 minutes.

  4. In a wide bowl add 3 cups all-purpose flour/maida.

  5. Add 1 tsp of salt and mix.

  6. Milk mixture gets foamy on top, add it with flour.

  7. Knead the dough, add 3 tsp softened butter.

  8. Knead for 10 minutes & make a soft and satiny dough.

  9. Grease the bowl, place dough, cover, and keep it in a warm place for at least 1 hour.

  10. Dough doubled in size.

  11. Punch down and knead for 1 more minute.

  12. Pinch off and make 9 even-sized balls.

  13. Roll into a ball smoothly without any cracks.

  14. Grease a baking pan.

  15. Place the dough balls in 1- inch distance.

  16. Cover and let rise until doubled or keep it for 30 minutes.

  17. Once done, brush with milk on top.

  18. Preheat the oven to 180F/360C, place the dough.

  19. Bake for 35 - 40 minutes.

  20. Once done, apply melted butter on top.

  21. Cooldown and serve.

    Excellent recipe and clear instructions. In otg what mode should I bake the buns in and keeping it in middle rack is okay?
