Eggless chocolate rava/sooji cake is a soft and fluffy cake prepared with semolina, cocoa powder, yoghurt and sugar. It is a yummy loved by everyone from children to adults and you can prepare for children’s birthdays’ to give home-made flavour and double the happiness when we make our own instead of buying. Delicious chocolate cake can be made at home in a very simple and healthy way without the oven and without adding eggs.

Some tips to make delicious semolina cake

  1. For sooji cake do not use roasted sooji, use the unroasted, fresh semolina. 
  2. I have added a little bit of maida flour. Instead, you can add wheat flour.
  3. You can replace the cooking oil with butter.
  4. Add thick yoghurt which is not too sour.
  5. You can cook it in a pot or bake it in the oven.
  6. I have added ½  cup of sugar with 1 cup of semolina. When cocoa powder is added it tastes slightly bitter, you can add sugar accordingly, if you prefer an extra sweet taste can add more sugar.

Eggless semolina cake

Ingredients
  • Semolina - 1 cup
  • Yoghurt - 1/4 cup
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Cooking oil - 1/4 cup 
  • Cocoa powder - 1/4 cup 
  • Milk - 1/2 cup
  • Maida - 3 Tsp
  • Baking powder - 1 tsp
  • Baking soda - 1/4 tsp 
To Decorate 
  • Chocolate spread - as required
  • Sprinkles - as required 
Instructions
  1. In a bowl add 1/4 cup of thick yoghurt, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of cooking oil.

  2. Stir until sugar is well dissolved.

  3. Add 1 cup of semolina and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder.

  4. Add 1/4 cup of whole milk and 3 Tsp of maida flour.

  5. Mix everything well and cover for 30 minutes.

  6. After 30 minutes you can see the cake batter becomes thick.

  7. Place a stand in a wide pan with a lid and heat for 10 minutes.

  8. Now add 1 tsp of baking powder and 1/4 tsp of baking soda with cake batter.

  9. Add 1/4 cup of milk and make a flowing consistency batter.

  10. Spread a little butter in a cake pan, line with butter paper on it or sprinkle with maida flour.

  11. Now pour the prepared cake batter into it.

  12. Put the cake pan in the pan, cover and cook on low heat for 50 to 60 minutes or bake on 360F/180C for 40-50 minutes.

  13. Once done, Insert a toothpick, if it comes out clean the cake is ready.  

  14. Spread some chocolate spread or hazelnut spread on it. Decorate with some sprinkles on top of it.

  15. Delicious eggless chocolate sooji cake is ready to serve.
