Chilli bajji is a tasty, crispy, and spicy snack. It is made with banana peppers, gram flour, rice flour, chilli powder, and deep-fried in oil. Chilli bajji is stuffed with tamarind paste, salt, and chilli powder, which will give a tangy and spicy taste to the dish, which makes it yummy.
Bajji is a popular street food of South India, especially in Tamil Nadu, there are verities of bajjis that are prepared in roadside shops and tea shops, onion bajji is the one for onion lovers, thinly slice onions, dipped in the batter and deep-fried in oil. Eggplant bajji and potato bajji are also made in the same way. Plantain bajji is different from raw banana bajji, plantain bajji is from Kerala called “Nenthiran Pazham”, and raw banana is popular in Tamil Nadu.
Notes
- While preparing bajji, the batter is a basic one, apart from chilli you can use other vegetables like onion, potato, brinjal, raw banana or even with bread.
- If the chilis are spicy no need to add chilli powder to the stuffing mixture.
- You can also make bajjis without stuffing the tamarind paste.
- If you are using peppers like serrano, jalapeno, Fresno, or green chilis no need to add chilli powder, it would be naturally spicy.
- Add more rice flour if you want to make the outer layer more crunchy.
- Serve bajji with coconut chutney or tomato sauce.

- 6 Banana peppers (bajji milagai)
- 1 cup Besan Flour|Gram flour
- ¼ cup Rice flour
- ½ tbsp Chili powder
- ¼ tbsp Baking soda
- ¼ tbsp Asafoetida
- Salt as needed
- Oil for frying
- 2 tbsp Tamarind paste
- ½ tbsp Chili Powder
- Salt as needed

In a bowl add 1 cup gram flour, 1/4 cup rice flour, 1/2 tbsp chilli powder, 1/4 tbsp baking soda, 1/4 tbsp asafoetida and needed salt.

Combine everything well, now add water little by little and make a thick paste, and keep it aside.

Slit the chilis and remove the seeds.

In a bowl add 2 tbsp tamarind paste, 1/2 tbsp chilli powder, and needed salt and mix well.

Stuff the tamarind paste inside chilis.

Now dip the chilis in the prepared batter.

Deep fry in hot oil, and cook till the bajjis become golden brown.

Drain it in the paper towel and serve hot.

Combine everything well, now add water little by little and make a thick paste, and keep it aside.
