Potato Smiley is a yummy and tasty snack prepared with boiled potatoes, cornflour, bread crumbs, and chilli powder, it is a kid’s favourite snack, deep-fried in oil. There are so many potato snacks, potato chips are the most popular one among them, potato wedges, french fries, etc. The above dishes can be fried or baked, both taste good.

Potato smiley is a good evening snack along with coffee or tea, also best for kid’s snacks box. Apart from the smiley,  you can make many different emojis. As I got this recipe from my friend and tried 3 times to write a perfect recipe, the best part is it came out very well all three times. All the potato snacks are a little tricky for learners or beginners.

Notes

  • While preparing potato smiley, you can use potato starch or boiled potatoes.
  • Cornflour and breadcrumbs bring the crispiness.
  • You can either deep fry in oil or bake at 180C/360F for 10-12 minutes.
  • The dough made with potatoes mixture should be stiff, shouldn’t soft and watery if so, the smileys may break while frying.
  • Fry smileys on medium-low heat for 1-2 minutes and increase up to the medium-high flame, cook until golden brown.

Ingredients
  • 4 Potatoes (450 grams approx)
  • 1/4 cup Bread crumbs
  • 2 tsp Cornflour
  • 2 tsp All-purpose flour/maida
  • 1/2 tsp Crushed pepper
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying
Instructions
  1. In a pan boil water and add 4 medium size potatoes, cook till nice and soft.

  2. Once done remove the skin and mash the potatoes without any lumps.

  3. Add 1/4 cup bread crumbs, 2 tsp cornflour, 2 tsp maida.

  4. Add 1/2 tsp crushed pepper, 1 tsp chilli powder, and the required salt.

  5. Mix everything well and make a stiff nonsticky dough.

  6. Keep it in a plastic wrap, press and flatten.

  7. Make a 1/2 inch thick circle and cut small rounds with a lid or a cookie cutter.

  8. Make eyes with straw and smile with a spoon.

  9. Smileys are ready to fry.

  10. Fry it in hot oil till golden colour.

  11. Crispy potato smileys are ready.
